Semco to build coal-fired power plant at Lake Okeechobee

Semco Energy is looking to build a coal-burning power plant on Lake Ookeechobees in the United States, the company announced today.

The project is part of its larger plans to move forward with a $1.6 billion nuclear power plant project that will use its massive Lake Oomechobee Dam to produce power.

A $1 billion Lake Oakeechobay nuclear project is also being built.

The company says the plant will be located near the Lake Oompa-Loomis Dam, which provides electricity to more than 600,000 people in the state.

Semco said in a statement that it expects the new power plant will contribute to energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the state’s reliance on imported energy.
